Western is vary friendly and accepting with a bit of drama like any school but fun. My biggest qualm is their financial aid is crappy as all get out. They loose a precentige of students every year because of it. but i haven't met a friendlyer town in ages.
Western State Colorado University is a great school. The campus is beautiful and the staff and students are great. Gunnison is a small town but being at Western gives you a great opportunity to meet new people and explore the small town of Gunnison. Studying at Western is great because you don't have to stress about big class sizes and a professor not knowing your name and, there's no worry of not being able to meet with your professor during office hours.
I really enjoyed WSCU, but I personally felt as if there was something missing that I wanted in my university. I was there for the music program touring the university and it is a beautiful campus. I also wish that there was some more people that were similar to my social group.
Love it! The location is beautiful, with spectacular scenery. The average weather is great too, and all seasons are included, unlike in Texas where I'm from. The facilities are fantastic! The indoor track, weight room, and rock climbing wall are all state-of-the-art and I dare you to find something better. You can get a private school education for a public school price, but they also offer a lot of scholarships including some hefty merit scholarships.
Western State Colorado University is a great school. Small class sizes allow for more personal interaction with the teachers. I have come to feel that my professors really care about me and are willing to help me in all my endeavors. WSCU is in a great town where the community members are as friendly and supportive as the professors, and there are lots of events in which students are invited to participate.
This is a school for people looking to be in the mountains and play at an affordable price. Most classes are not any more challenging than a standard high school class. Fairly intelligent people may feel they are not being challenged and rather breezing by. Be aware graduating from Western will make you an underdog when applying for competitive jobs. There is quite a mix of professors, ranging from enthusiastic and excellent to I'd be better off teaching myself (which often happens). Overall, Western is a good place to get a college degree, but not necessarily a college level education.
Western is an amazing school for those who wish to study in a small sized classroom, with professors who are always willing to help and meet with students. Living on campus has opened doors to joining a long list of very diverse clubs. Food services on campus however leave something to be wanted. Overall, I love living and growing at Western State Colorado University.
Western State Colorado University has certainly grown over the last couple of years, but there is still room for improvement. Most of the teachers are great, staff are mostly friendly, and the learning environment can be incredibly frustrating at times. The On-Campus Housing needs some serious improvement, except for Pinnacles Apartments. All the other On-Campus Housing needs renovation. The On-Campus Food Service is okay, for the most part. Financial Aid is perhaps the worst part in the entire college, expect little-to-no help from the Financial Counselors, especially if you are an out-of-state student. Although, there are many clubs to participate in, and definitely a lot more hands-on learning experience than any other college I've been to.
The campus is tucked in to the hills of Gunnison Valley. A short distance away you get two different ski resorts, At Blue Mesa Reservoir you can fish and enjoy water sports and Hartman Rocks you can hike etc. so the outdoors person will love it here. If you are in to party/club scene there will not be much for you to do. Most of the professors are very personable and knowledgeable to help you gain a good foundation for your education. The business department is great and have international exchange programs to offer even more experiences. Over all great place to get an education.
WSCU is a small school and the surrounding town does not offer many opportunities for food and shopping, however, for those interested in smaller schools and big opportunities to get out and recreate in nature, WSCU is a great choice. It does get to be very cold in Gunnison, though.
I am extremely excited to start my first year at Western! I've visited my friends numerous of times and they were actually the ones who pushed me to apply. Anyone who loves the outdoors and an affordable college experience will love Western State Colorado University.
For the price, it is great, but comepared to other schools, it falls short. I feel that the community is great and welcoming, but the academics only take you so far. It honestly feels like a slight extension of high school. However, it’s great for a first-time college experience.
Western Sate Colorado University is located in a beautiful area, the academics are also exceptional, however there are many cons, the food, in my opinion is awful, it tastes stale and dry and the same food seems to be served every single day, there is also absolutely nothing to do in the town of Gunnison, the campus also seems to be dead all the time, there is really never anybody around. This school is good for students who desire a smaller classroom, but socially, there are much better schools available.
I am very excited to attend western in August and become a mountaineer! I plan to be a diver at western and i already love the environment the team makes for new bees. The food is delicious and that campus is overall a beautiful and welcoming campus!
If you want a small school experience with a private education value, Western is you spot!! I can't rave enough about how amazing the faculty and staff are. Classes are usually never larger than 18 people and professors know more than just your name. If you work on investing yourself, there is no length to what these professors will go to to get you to that graduation stage. Very unique majors offered in undergrad and grad degrees. Small mountain town that is far away from big amenities but if you like small town charm, Gunnison is the perfect place for you! That being said, housing is a bit scarce. Finding affordable and decently modern off-campus housing is rare. On-campus housing is just as bad. Very old and out of date. One of the halls just flooded and ruined a lot of students textbooks and computers and the school gave each student $100. GET RENTERS INSURANCE FOR YOUR DORMS IT IS $12/MONTH!!!!!!!
