Western State Colorado University Top Questions

There aren't any fraternity or sorority houses around Western. If you want a college career based on huge house parties and binge drinking, this isn't the place for you. Gunnison has a fun social scene but it's based more on concerts, sporting events, winter games, and fun (responsible) drinking instead. Western is also very accepting of all lifestyle choices and passions, if you are narrow minded this isn't the school for you. Lastly, Western is tucked in the mountains and 2 hours from a large city. You'll never be bored, but be aware of isolation.

Western State College of Colorado has a very small population and is located in a remote community in the Rocky Mountains. We experience some of the coldest temperatures and receive quite a bit of snow. This is not a school for someone who needs the social scene and amenities of a city, or cannot adjust to multiple feet of snow and -40 degree temperatures.

Anyone who doesn't want to be challenged in and out of class or doesn't like to be outdoors at all shouldn't attend. Western challenges students to be the best they can be in school, in the community, and in life in general. The school is also in the Rock mountains, which means many activities offered are outside based, like backpacking, kayaking, or skiing.

A person who has no internal motivation should not attent this school. Western State is a dog eat dog college. If your a partier theres alot here for you. If you dont like to party you better be a strong willed person, and have things to do or you will get very bored here.

Someone who loves living in a big area, loves the city, and loves a big school. Western State College of CO is a small school in a small town about three hours from any big cities. I also wouldn't recommend it to anyone who does not like to perform outdoor activities or get involvoled in the campus life.

Some one who could not handle a place where the temperature has the potential to reach -56 degrees F! One who would not an to attend class very often would struggle here because class size generally does not get bigger than 40 people and the professors will notice your absense. Also, one who needs a large city, mall, or population should not go here.

our school pretty much accepts everyone, i can't picture anyone not having a group of friends they could be with.

Somebody who needs a big town and a huge variety of nightlife. Somebody who hates cold and snow. Somebody who likes to shop. Indoorsy people. People who like to be a "face in the crowd" during classes.
