Great college for those wanting a more personal experience. Small class sizes and very helpful professors. Lots to do in the area - hiking, biking, skiing, sporting events, lots of culture events (theatre, galleries, symphony, dance, etc.). Love the small campus with state of the art equipment. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to attend a smaller, liberal ed. college in a great community.

Mary - 04/08/2021

I have always loved this college! It is what I have been looking for. Smaller classes and such professionalism, you're not just a number. the feeling I get for everyone that I have talked to is that they want you to succeed. The grounds are so well kept and clean and I felt very safe. I am a non traditional student returning to college. I look forward to attending this prestigious school and graduating with honors.

Westminster is a close-knit community. The classes are small, the professors are friendly, and financial aid is almost always available. The small campus allows for a safe environment. Any students seeking support for any reason, whether it is academics, mental health, or financial aid, don't have to look far for help. There are plenty of activities year-round to get involved in, and you'll always have something to do!

Westminster is a very liberal school with small class sizes located in the heart of Salt Lake City. It's a safe haven for very liberal people like me, which isn't something easily found in Utah. Westminster has programs for almost anything you can imagine with a very high emphasis on the performing arts.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Location and learning environment are the most important factors in choosing a college that is the right fit for you. It is important that the area that you will be attending college at has things that interest you around it, whether that be the ocean, large cities, or mountains. Fun outdoors excercise is important to a healthy body and clear mind, and it is essential that you are able to participate in these activites that are fun, social, and benefitial to your health all at the same time. It is imporant that you can find a refuge in nature to escape the stresses of schooling at some point. It is also imporant to be learning together with somewhat like-minded people in an environment where your ideas are respected and listened too. For me a smaller school was benefitial because I have been able to establish stronger relationships with my professors encouraging me to want to do better as well as making it easier and less intimidating to seek assistance.

  3. Describe the students at your school.

There are a lot of rich white kids that are here on Daddy's money to play video games and snowboard, and also Mormon kids who weren't quite up to snuff to get into BYU. Stay away fromt hose kids. If you know what to look for, you will find some intellectuals who know what's up. There are also a good deal of Chinese exchange students that you should take the time to get to know.

  13. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

College is a completely different culture. You find yourself in this chaotic frenzy of things going on, things you have to do and large transition from what you know to the clueless. I was always told how different college was but i was independent and didn’t need support in high school to do well so I shrugged it off. I was ignorant. The people, the individual cultures, the activities and the experience are incredible and they will change you for life. It is a new world that is unbelievable, be ready to have your eyes opened & your character shifted.

Westminster College combines the aesthetic appeal and easy accessibility of Utah with the feel of an East Coast school. Teachers work with students individually, and because Westminster isn't a university, the quality of teaching is better. The teachers are there for students and because they love to teach. The professors are completely dedicated. I couldn't think of a more perfect school - Westminster has everything!

  16. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The most frustrating things at my school is parking; there are not enough parking spots. Getting into classes you need for your major is now hard, because of the student population is growing so fast, the school is not getting more professors to accommodate the growth. Cafeteria is awful, there is only 1 on campus and the selection on entries are constant, need variety.

  20. What are your classes like?

Almost all my classes at Westminster have been great so far, however, as a chemistry major, my classes are naturally very difficult. Every week in my organic chemistry class we have work in the lab, in which we must write our procedure before hand, answer pre-lab questions, and then spend four hours in the lab. We must then write a post lab, answer post lab questions, and write about chemistry. It is very much work to do, and to finish all the work along with all the work from other classes such as physics and calculus, is like trying to cut down a tree with a feather. The upside is that we have great teachers who are always happy to help us.

  21. Tell us about the sports scene on campus.

Dumke field is the best place to play sports. It is a turf field where any student can go to play as long as the lacrosse or soccer team is not using it. Payne gymnasium and the Health and Wellness center are also great places to play indoors, swim in a shallow pool, and get exercise. Many clubs such as the swim club, indoor soccer club, ski and snowboard club, water polo club, quidditch club, and many more active clubs will definitely keep you busy in the world of sports. The volleyball net in the sand pit and the wide open spaces to play frisbee will also be a great place for you to relax and have fun.
