Levi - 02/07/2023

Though the past few years have undoubtedly had their ups and downs, the professors that I have had, the older mentors at my local, college church, my therapists and chaplains at school, along with my closest friends have all continuously selflessly given of themselves by choosing to take up a portion of my daily pain, all of this contributing enormously to the emotional and psychological stabilization I have experienced in the past two-and-a-half years.

The perfect balance of "fun" and "school" is different for everyone-but if you are willing to commit yourself to your work, Wheaton is a place that will make your time worth it. The classes here are definitely rigorous, but the professors are knowledgeable, invested, and available. The school will even pay for them to have lunch with you if there's a prof who's brain you'd like to pick. The food and housing are amazing by college standards (there is an ongoing rivalry between floors and dorms, not unlike frats/sororities), and the community is relatively small, but active. This is, however, not the place to party. There is a legacy of fun activities that the campus engages in, but it's a dry campus. People recognize that they're here to learn. Spiritual life is a huge component of Wheaton-it is taken seriously and profs will give you unique windows into faith & learning, but they also represent a wide range of Christian denominations. The campus is gorgeous and the proximity to Chicago is a definite plus.

Mollie

Wheaton is a thriving community of intelligent, passionate, and globally-minded Christians. The faculty and leadership put great emphasis on creating a community that facilitates dialogue between opposing viewpoints, while maintaining a Christian worldview. The academics are challenging, but professors are committed to giving students the resources they need to succeed both in class and in life.

Isaya

Wheaton is a college where professors are there for the students, which I know because they get paid barely anything. They want students to succeed, and go out of their way to make sure that they do. The community is also tight-knit and caring, with clubs that you can join for almost anything. If it doesn't exist, you can start your own.

  6. What are the academics like at your school?

The academics at Wheaton are awesome! There's a lot of amazing Prof's at Wheaton that are genuinly interesting in getting to know you and help you out in any way possible. The classroom sizes are smal, so that's great becuase there wasn't a big switch from class sizes in high school to the class sizes in college, so that also helped to ease my tranisition greatly. Studying amounts vary from season to season. When it is nicer outside, students read on the lawns surrounding and on the campus. However, during the winter, studying really picks up becuase it's so dang cold outside! Stdents are not nearly as competitive as I thought before coming to campus. I am a double major in Business Economics and Christian Education with a Youth Ministry Certificate.... aka.... I have a lot of credits to take ; )

  7. What is your overall opinion of this school?

The best thing about Wheaton is the social life and residence halls! Fischer Dorm is the best (that's the hall I'm on!) and there's so much to do on your dorm floor! My favorite thing ever is planning and experiencing a "Raid". These are themed parties the borther/sister floor thow for each other? What's so great about them? Well, they're totally top secret and you wake up your borther/sister floor at 12 am and it goes until 2 am! There's a loud raid (when you throw the party) every semester and a silent raid (when you decorate the hall at 3-4ish in the morning!!!!) every semester. All-in-all, you have a loud raid you throw, a silent raid you throw, and a loud raid for your floor, and a slient raid for your floor every single semester! They're GREAT!!!! Plus, there's a train station right outside of campus (a 5 minute walk!) that'll take you right into the city of Chicago for only $6 on weekends! It's a nice opportunity so you can get off campus and enjoy all the city has to offer!

  8. What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Intermurals are really popular, especially volleyball, ultimate, and soccer. Almost all students leave theri doors open while they are in their rooms on their floor: this is a sign that they want others to stop on by and hang out. Not many of my friends are dating. I have been dating for over six months however, and that's been really fun! It is a little difficult for shy girls to find a date becuase often the guys at Wheaton need a little prompting, however, that is not true for all guys. In fact, every newer class that enters into Wheaton seems to have an easier time in the dating scene. However, both the guys and girls are really high quality! Partying, as far as alcohol is concerned, almost never happens. An extremely small percentage of students drink, smoke, do drugs, etc. As a whole, the Wheaton kids know how to have good, quality, (and not to mention hilarious) time that you can actually remember the next morning!

  9. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

The community aspect of life here is incredible. If you take the time to invest in others, you will be rewarded in so many ways. People truely care about you and want you to develop and grow.

  10. What kind of person should not attend this school?

If you are not a Christian, or a nominal Christian, I would not attend this school. Chapel is required three times per week, which I found to be encouraging and engaging. Yet, if you don't share in these beliefs, you won't understand the requirements, and most likely you'll transfer fairly quickly.

  11. Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.

Wheaton College is a Christian liberal arts institution, that is acedemically rigurous, and has exellent food!

  12. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The rigorous atmosphere that seems to cut students off from other aspects other than academics. The weekends are dead, I feel that they may do that on purpose to encourage studies. Way too many students are very burnt out and tired. Lots of depression on the campus, and 3 suicides in the last 2 years. That's a lot for a school that small.

White, Christian, Conservative, Midwestern Suburbanite--we wouldn't want to upset the balance now would we? Also, you must be a type-A overachiever who took all AP classes and was involved in at least 10 extra-curicular activities in high school. OR you could be a football player and ignore all the previous statements and get into this school on the highly-coveted Football Financial Aid Program.
