Wheaton College-Wheaton Top Questions

Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?

Jenny

yeah

Nico

while most people are pretty smart and are generally pretty dedicated to their relationship with the Lord, students at Wheaton are really social and fun to be around! and people are pretty varied in their political beliefs, so don't think that every one is automatically conservative and in love with Bush. it's totally not true.

Michael

To a certain extent. I think that the administration is more legalistic and naive than the students at the school are. I think that with any Christian school is going to be accused of hypocrisy because the students aren't perfect.

Nick

There is a majority of the population of Wheaton that is very representative of the stereotypes; however, there is also a healthy society of students who do not wish to be categorized as such, and they will strive to be recognized as abnormal (by Wheaton standards).

jonathan

the first two are, but the third one isn't.

Sarah

Some students are probably hypocritical, but most are genuinely making an effort to live Godly lives. Almost all are serious, committed Christians. Taking morality seriously is often seen as hypocrisy, but Wheaton students are not trying to set themselves above everyone else. They are trying to live out their faith. The perfectionist stereotype is accurate. Wheaton students work hard to achieve their goals, and for many this becomes an unhealthy tendency. It does mean, though, that Wheaton students have high standards and achieve a lot.

Kristi

I have a blast at Wheaton! It definitely doesn't involve wild, drunken parties, but we know how to have fun. And most home-schoolers are actually very social... and there are even a few Democrats on campus!

Toby

I think that most people come to wheaton and for the most part think that they have everything figured out and are the best at everything they do. Freshmen always think that they know what's going on. Then they realize that they know nothing and there's always someone better than they are and that hurts but then they get over it and learn more than they ever expected to about themselves, God and other people.

Katie

sometimes yes

Amy

Heck no. The campus perhaps on average is more conservative than most, but it is very well-rounded, active, conscientious, and fun.

Claire

Not all. We have a lot of fun- there's a ton of stuff to do around the Chicago area, and if you're bored, it's your own fault. There's always something going on around campus...with or without your boyfriend/girlfriend!!! Wheaton is in fact a campus swarming with beautiful people--both boys and girls.

Will

somewhat, but there are definitely people who couldn't care less about the covenant

Charlie

for the most part yes, but we are all human too...some people drink, smoke, have sex, etc. but the population that does so is VERY, EXTREMELY few

Tate

hahaha. no, though they are until you get to know people for real.

Jenn

Half of them are. Most of the students here are Caucasian and rich. There's always your one stuck-up student here and there, but not as many as expected. When it comes to world knowledge, a lot of students haven't experienced something different other than home and college.

Andy

There are people here who are the reason these stereotypes exist, obviously, but for the most part if those words don't describe you, there's still a lot of places for you to be. I am not conservative by any measure, but have found community here with people who are. I am not type A and people are fine with that. Actually I'd say teh Type A stereotype is probably the most quoted and least accurate.

Line

Only for a select few. Everyone here was the top dog at his/her high school and Wheaton is a very humbling experience. Most people, after time, lose their superiority complex and learn to live saner lives.
