wheelock college is the perfect school for anyone interested in a career that involves helping others, while those who are unsure about their future careers will probably find that they are unhappy.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would tell perspective college students and their parents to visit all of the schools they are looking into. They should go with what feels right. I visited many college campuses, but I only felt comfortable and at home while visiting Wheelock. Most of the campuses I went to were too big and I felt small. The atmosphere at Wheelock was great and I felt like I belonged. Go with your gut. If you like the atmosphere and the vibe that you feel while on campus it?s probably right for you. After picking the perfect school, the college experience is all about trying new things. Don?t hold back or be afraid. College is about finding new friends, new hobbies and becoming a new independent person. Being your own boss but not over doing it is also a part of the experience. Finding a balance between making the right decisions and making a few mistakes is all a part of the process. It may start off rocky but stick with it. It?s part of the journey.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

The best advice I have for parents and students researching colleges is to consider schools that are not the most popular picks and to appreciate the admissions process. If the applicant can separate the emotional aspects of acceptance and rejection, he or she will recognize that the process is truly about finding the best placement. While it is glamorous to wave an acceptance letter from an Ivy League school, that is no assurance of happiness or success at that institution. Admission to a lesser-known college may provide opportunity for growth and individual recognition. A checklist for parents typically considers tuition and distance from home. Prospective students, however, have a longer list of issues to consider. What are the school's academic strengths? Will the distance from home be an asset or a deficit? Consider extracurricular and social activities on campus as well as opportunities for field placements and area offerings.Once enrolled, the student should make new friends, join clubs and make ample time to study. It will be in a student?s best interest to establish a reputation as a leader on-campus and or in the surrounding community

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The most frustrating thing about Wheelock College, is the fact that the commuters have to pay 5.00 every day to get into the cafeteria in order to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner while the people who live on campus just have to pay 1 point.

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

Wheelock College is a small college in the heart of the big city of Boston. It's like its own little world but then all of the excitement of the city is right outside your door. The small class sizes here allow for more one-on-one time with professors and makes learning here more personable.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

It's important for students and/or their parents to take a look at each college closely. Figure out what aspects you would like in a college, like small class sizes, the location of the college, organizations and clubs, etc. Once you have figured out what characteristics of a college fit you, then you can start your search. Just remember that not every college is perfect, every college has some flaws here and there. If the college has what you are looking for and if the staff and other students are friendly and inviting, then you have probably found the right college for you. In order to make the most out of your college experience, make sure you dive right in. Join some clubs, make friends with the people in your dormitory, and get an on-campus job. Participate in class, volunteer to do community service, and get to know the professors in your intended field of study. All of these things are important to making the most of your college experience.

What's unique about your campus?

The best thing about Wheelock College is the professors that teach there. The professors are very knowledgable in the fields that they teach and are always there to answer your questions the best they can. They understand that school is stressful so they are always available to meet with you to talk and go over class assignments or projects or simply just talk about your major.

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

I was capitivated by Wheelock's mission statement. I am very passionate about improving the lives of women and children in my society. I have always wanted to go into the counseling field. With Wheelock's hands approach to the field I am more experienced and more prepared to enter the field. Wheelock has several opportunities for students to take advantage of field placements and internships throughout all four years of school.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Finding the college is definitely not easy for everyone, but I believe selecting the right college involves consideration of the degree programs offered, tuition, and the overall experience the college with most likely give to the student and his/her family. Its so important to find the right program since it will be want you will be studying for the next four years. Everything else will fall in place once that is found. And regarding the college experience; you must be in control because only you can truly have control over what experience you will get out of college.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish I was better prepared financially and had other resources to gain more scholarships in order to finance my education.

Wheelock College is best known for studying how to care for both children and families. This includes major like education, social work, and child life.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

My advise would be to just go with your gut. What school you go to is extremely important. If you feel 100% comfortable with your school and it feels like home, then thats how you know it's the right school for you. Yes, money is also a huge influence on which school a person goes to, but when you think of your future and how a school is going to help further your career, you can easily put money on the back burner.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

I think the worst thing about my school is the size of it. I think it is really important for children and families to be tended to. The fact that Wheelock isn't as known as other big universities is really upsetting. Wheelock should be a university, not a college.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Take the time to conduct a thorough self-examination before trying to pick a school. Don't make decisions based on your friends or college rankings. Think about what is really important to you and what you want out a college education. This will ensure that you find a school that is a good fit for you, and not just a good school.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Because it is so focused (education and social work) , it is a difficult place to be for students who are unsure about what they want to do.

Describe your favorite campus traditions.

Wheelock is best known for its dedication to children and families, in fact, the school's motto is about serving children and families. While Wheelock's education program is one of the best, and the school's other programs are equally dedicated to children and families. It strives to produce people who will work to serve their community in a variety of ways through its child life, social work, and new juvenile justice program, and continues to follow its motto in these fields.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Finding the right college involves an intense look at yourself. It is easy to apply to the same or similar school as your friends, but it takes some real soul searching to determine what kind of school would be right for you. There are so many aspects of yourself that are important to consider when choosing the right school. Would you like a big or small school? What's your learning style and what environment will best support that? Is student diversity important to you? There are just a few of the many questions a student needs to ask himself. You also need to look past the name of the school. It is tempting to apply to big name universities and ignore the lesser known schools out there, but sometimes that unknown school is the perfect fit. Important to remember is that if you are unhappy at a school, you should take the time to transfer to another school. It may feel like failure in some way, but finding the school where you can be happy and successful is most important, and making sure you find that school is not failure. Basically, just be true to yourself in your choice!

What kind of person should attend this school?

Wheelock can either be academically challenging, or very easy, it varies greatly from professor to professor. A student who likes a challenge and will not take the easy route out will get the most out of a Wheelock education. While a student who sticks to easier classes may do alright, they will not get the same valuable experience that comes from taking the challenging courses and pushing yourself to new academic heights.
