Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

B-Rob is Whitworth's secret weapon. Unlike most school, the President of Whitworth, B-Rob, is incredibly involved in eace student's life. Bill Robinson takes the time to know each student by name and genuinely cares about their individual experience at Whitworth. B-Rob insists that Whitworth is a "first-name basis" campus from administration, to faculty, staff and students. As a transfer, I know that this is not the case for many other schools. Whitworth is the most open, caring and down to earth university I know of.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

My advice would be this: make the best decision you can based on what you know, but don't be afraid to change. College is an extremely important time in one's life. It is important to research several schools in order to make the best decisions about which school is right; however, even with a lot of research, not everything will always work out. Know that it is okay to make changes because transfering is always an option. Students should always a attend a college that meets both their academic and social needs. If academics are too strongly emphasized, students will often become discouraged and grow tired of the challenge. The best college experiences occur when students choose a school that allows them to be themselves. A school where they can feel comfortable with the education the receive and the person they are allowed to become. College is a time with a lot of unknowns so don't be afraid to change and make adjustments as needed - simply enjoy the ride because it may just be the time of your life!

What kind of person should attend this school?

Most Whitworth students are conservative however they are some of the friendliest and most outgoing people I have ever met. Incoming students should be active, outgoing and open minded. Most importantly though, students should just feel comfortable being themselves. Students who have a smile on their face, an open, giving, caring heart, and a desire to challenge themselves both personally and academically will most certainly fit in and feel comfortable calling Whitworth their home.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Make sure that the college is really a place you want to go to. You'll be spending a lot of time there, so it's important that you want to be there and that you're willing to make new friends and put yourself out there a little more. Don't be afraid to go far away from home either. College is a time when you can go out and do your own thing without as many responsibilities. It's about finding yourself and what you want to achieve in life - limiting yourself, I think, would only cause regrets. Get involved too! It's fun to meet new people, try new things and make a fool out of yourself every once in a while. It may be embarrassing at the time but it's a fun story for later! Also, don't just go to a school because they have a good sports team to play on. Pay just as much attention to academics - it is far more likely that you will use knowledge rather than athletic ability to succeed in life.

What kind of person should attend this school?

I think that the students are generally more conservative, middle-class Christians. Someone who wants to live on a smaller campus and be able to build more relationships with professors are definitely able to do that here. If someone wants to play sports, but still have a strong emphasis on academics as well would be well-supported by the Whitworth faculty and coaches.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

I think that the school spirit is not as strong around Whitworth because it is a smaller school. It would be fun to be able to go to the bigger games and have more people involved in the sports aspect of college.
