Whitworth is built on a close tight-knit community filled with kindness, there are always staff members and students you can look to for help. Whitworth is building its diverse communities of students and more and more support is being given to students that celebrate diversity, as students have a lot of say in how the campus is run, teachers, classes, and facilities. We are all valued and given voices and no matter what kindness is what we strive for.

Whitworth Campus is beautiful and well maintained. Most of the professors were enjoyable and allowed for the accommodations I required. However, as a private school there was a definite feeling of elitism on campus including from other students. They make a big show of being understanding, but don't always follow through with actions that truly represent that.

Ashley - 07/26/2021

Whitworth University is a home to those who attend it. While many come with certain expectations and ideals that are not usually met, Whitworth usually provides what students need to figure out who they actually are. Overall, the students and the professors are very kind and welcoming, and most enjoy engaging in deep, meaningful conversation. Whitworth is small but is continuing to grow and expand.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Do not worry, do not stress. College life is great and easy to make new, long lasting friends. The classes we take are not only meant to educate and prepare us for the outside world, but to allow us to grow more as a person, which is what really matters. Working hard in college is important, but stressing about it ahead of time is not good. Have fun, work hard, and the ending outcome will be whatever we want it to be.

  4. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

I feel like Whitworth is a bubble, and a lot of the kids have not faced reall ife problems. The Christian aspect of the school probably has a lot to do with it. I feel like there is not enough diversity, and i'm not talking strictly about ethnic diversity.

  5. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The worst thing about Whiworth is the food and the recent construction on campus. The food is like any cafeteria food perhaps a little better, but if you tend to be conscientious about what goes into it, you may want to have an alternative place to eat. The construction makes it a little hard to sleep in on days when you have late classes.

  7. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish I had known how difficult it would be to be away from my family, friends, and the place I had called home for 18 years. I would have worked harder on appreciating the life I lived back home, and how different--not good, not bad, just different--life would be in Spokane at school.

  15. What do people really wear to class?

Not gonna lie, it's a bit dressier than what I had anticipated. Most students try to look, at very least, like they tried to put something together that matched. Most girls accessorize, even when wearing sweats, but in the 8AM's you'll see students that looked like they rolled out of bed and threw on a sweater.

  19. Describe your school to someone who's never heard of it.

Whitworth is the perfect combination of low-key small school feel and larger school activity options. The people are kind, considerate, and friendly (you even get doors held for you everywhere you go), and the overall atmosphere can only be described as coffee shop meets summer camp. The classes are small enough that students go to coffee with their professors, and the profs themselves are incredibly knowledgeable and active in their fields. The campus is beautiful and well kept with trees surrounding the campus and creating what we Whitworthians call the "pinecone curtain" (just don't forget to look into the outside world every once in awhile). Overall, an amazing place with awesome opportunities! :)
