Winona State University Top Questions

The worst thing about Winona is that it is a pretty small town. I grew up in a city much bigger than Winona, and it is hard to adjust to such a small-town mind set.

The worst thing about my school would be the transportation from west campus to main campus. There are some dorms and classes on west campus that students need to use. The bus/van is a hassel to use and takes up a lot of your time.

The worst thing would have to be that there isn't much for college type food around campus. Sure there are some fast food places but they're all a little distance away.

The worst thing about my university would have to the lack of student activties that are held on campus. Many are only offered late at night when many student cannot attend.

The worst thing about my school is that their are more girls than their are boys. The ratio is 6 to 1, so sometimes in my classes there won't be a single boy in them!

The worst thing about Winona State University would have to be the mathematics program. It is very hard to find a good professor for the upper-level math classes such as calculus, and the program could use some improvements in general. I have heard many negative comments about the mathematics program, and have not had a good experience with it myself.

The facilities were in the process of remodeling so sometimes it was hard to deal with construction.

The one quality that makes Winona State a great small school is also its worst feature. Winona State is in a small town with little to do for fun. With the lack of outside activities many students in Winona State end up leaving to go home on the weekends, stay on campus, or party. There is little to no activity with the town Winona, because most students stay and live only on campus. The small class rooms are really helpful, but the lack of a social life kills this college.

I like the college that I am attending and I don't see any major problems with it. The only thing that would be nice is to have more study rooms on the library for individual people, not just groups.

The financial aid system because the students that are most in need of aid do not always get it and when they have questions they do not get straight answers. Instead they are given the run around and told to go to various buildings on campus.

I wish it were bigger. I wouldn't recommend this school for students who currently live in big cities and love big cities.

Socially, I feel like there's quite a bit of emphasis on partying here. I don't have a problem with it, but it's hard to find a group of friends that are like me; I like to have a good time, but I don't go out every weekend and while I have drunk, I've never gotten wasted, and it seems like people either like getting completely trashed or don't party at all and are kind of antisocial, and it's hard to find a group of friends who are at a happy medium.

The worst thing would be how hard it is to come to the school knowing no other people. A lot of people come to this school after going to high school with their friends, so it makes it somewhat difficult for those coming in outside of this area to make friends.

Probably the fact that it's located in the midwest and therefore the majority of the school year consists of snowy walks to and from class.

I would say that the worst thing would be the lack of places to eat or even shop. The nearest city with a good mall is not even 20 miles away, but a lot of freshmen don't take their cars to school and that can be a problem if there isn't public transportation.

The worst thing about Winona State University is that we never get snow days. We have some bad winters and rarely ever get snow days.

It is a smaller school. But overall there is nothing really bad about the school. The town is more the problem, it just is so small.
