I wish I had known just how much work college is. Not even the academics or the extra-curricular work, but simply the work that it takes to live.
Getting involved with clubs and activities early is the best way to meet people.
WPI is private so academic standards are not mandated by the government, which makes a better teaching environment. The majority of classes squeeze into a seven-week period. This is good because it teaches you to learn quickly and simulates real-world experience. The only issue with this teaching style is somtimes subjects, in an area, are skipped over or not thoroughly ingrained in your mind.
I wish I had known more about the scheduling system at WPI. Rather than the 6 course semester system, we have 7 week terms with 3 courses per term. Though I knew this, I didn't know how difficult it would be compared to the semester syste. However, I now think that this system is really useful because it teaches students time managment abilities and how to learn new concepts quickly. Both of these are skills that will be crucial in both graduate school and the workforce.
I wish I knew that I would be able to excel in this school. When I first came to Worcester Polytechnic Institute, I let its reputation get the best of me. I knew that the work was hard and did not have extremely high confidence in myself academically despite doing well in high school. Soon I came to find that as long as I worked hard academically, I was able to obtain the A's I desired and excel at WPI.
Before I came this this school, I was quite distraught that I was not accepted into any Ivy League school. After spending time here and learning more about its reputation, I realize (being very interested in research) that my school is one of the top research universities in the nation.
I wish that I had known that there was a strong Christian group on campus before I attended this school.
That it would be difficult to classify WPI's classes as pre-requisite requirements for medical and veterinary school
that chemical engineering is impossible
I wish I had known more physics.
I wish I had known how involved I would have to be in extra-curriculars to have an active social life, which is mostly my fault anyways.
WPI is a vastly male-dominated school. The social life here is absolutely dismal.
