So far it seems more or less okay, it's quite different from the community college I attended before and im still trying to get accustomed to how the classes here work. Overall it's not so bad, the students seem nice enough and so do the professors.

Rachael

I was only visiting as a prospective student, but I absolutely loved it! I plan on attending York this upcoming fall. Everything to me seems perfect. It has my specific major, the professors have made it every clear that their doors are always open to be there for us. The people I have already met are super nice and encouraging and I felt so welcome on campus.

When I first walked onto the York College Campus, I was approached by other students. They made me feel right at home on the first day. I am also a part of the Cross Country and Track team. Being a part of this team made me realize that we are not just a team but a family. Not only do you feel a part of a family with your team but with others on campus as well. I had a great first year at York College and I am looking forward to the next school year.

York College does a great job of balancing the arts (choir, drama, etc.) with athletics. The academics allow students to challenge themselves as little or as much as they desire. Many of the professors are willing to meet outside of class and even in their own homes to ensure a community is built in and out of the classroom (PS, the classroom may be a grass field on sunny days.)

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If i could travel back in time, I would tell myself to invest more of my time by filling out every scholarship application that i qualified for and to invest my time in more important things. Leaving home to attend college will only strengthen your relationships with everyone you will leave at home. When you are given a great talent, make sure that you use that talent to help others grow closer to the person that they aspire to be. There is no such thing as choosing the right college, but more as choosing the college that makes you feel the most comfortable and welcome.

  3. What kind of person should not attend this school?

The kind of person that should not attend this college is someone who is not respectful of their peers and teachers and just don't try in their classes. There is no purpose for someone to be here if they are not willing to try. This college changes lives for sure, but people who attend here have to be willing to accept the diversity, support and love from the peers, friends and teachers that they have here. That is just something to expect when you are here. People will treat you fairly if you do the same thing to them.

  5. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The most frustrating thing is probably that it has a smaller amount of resources available compared to larger schools. It's a great college with amazing professors but we're not as up to date in the technology department as we could be. Also, there isn't really a campus recreation center where students can go to play a pick-up game of basketball, or anything else.

  7. Describe your favorite campus traditions.

My college is know for it's Christ centered education and support for others. Everyone cares for each other and supports when they are down or when they just need someone to talk to. The support is there when you need it. Tutoring for classes comes in handy and is available when you need it. When I visited York College for the first time I realized that this is where I need to be, because things are different than most colleges when it comes to education and support. God put me here for a reason, & I am staying here.

  8. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Before I came to York, I wish I would have known exactly what kind of strain and tension distance adds to any type of relationship. I also wish I would have known how many great people I was going to meet because I would have began college with more excitement. I also would have liked to know how important it is to become involved in campus activities and how easy being involved makes it to meet people on campus.

  9. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

I think the worst thing about York College is the actualy campus facilities. The dorms are outdated, the cafeteria (though updated) is small and others a small variety of food, and the other buildings are all well over 100 years old. I think that the upkeep of campus has been pushed to the background because of recent financial issues at the school, so the students suffer from subpar housing and classroom situations.
