The student body at YSU is very diverse racially, religiously, and socio-economically. We also have a large non-traditional student population. This in turn leads to very diverse and stimulating class discussions and allows the students to also to learn how to work well with people from all walks of life. Most of the students live around the Youngstown area and commute to campus everyday, which is sometimes frustrating if you are looking for a college campus that is always alive.

Being a music student, my classmates are much more connected with eachother than most colleges. We all play music together, so the oxytocin levels between us are all sky high since we work together so intimately. True, there is competition when it comes to auditions, but besides that, we all are here to learn how to play, teach, and make music together and by ourselves. We are all pretty outgoing and friendly. We love hanging out, with or without instruments, and just being together makes us happy.
The range of race, culture, and age varies significantly.
