Certificates in Medical Assistant
A certificate is a short term program also called a diploma. It may prepare graduates for entry level employment in a medical setting. You may find these programs at 2 year colleges as well as career schools. As a rule, you must have a high school diploma or its equal to apply.
Because it does not lead to a degree, a certificate often takes less than one year to complete. For one, there are fewer classes. And, the ones you take tend to focus on both technical and admin topics.
If you already have a degree though, having a certificate shows a level of proficiency. It may add value to a resume and existing know how.
This being so, you may also need to complete an externship to earn the certificate. Whether at a local clinic, physician’s office, hospital, HMO, or other allied health facility.
Medical Assistant Associate Degree
An online associate degree in medical assistant is typically a 2-year degree. It may entail about 65 credits spread into coursework, labs and a practicum.
Many online colleges award an Associate of Applied Science. Instead, they aim to prep grads to seek entry level medical assisting jobs. In the first part of the program, you are likely to take practical courses. These may discuss the health care industry and things that go along with it. Medical Assistant Bachelor’s Degree
A bachelor’s degree usually takes four years, entail 120 credits and may include a final project and internship. Many online colleges award a Bachelor of Science (BS) in health science. The Medical Assistant major is not a typical one at this level. That said, a BS in Health Science may prep you to pursue a range of health care professions. From clinical informatics to patient advocacy.
Coursework in health science often studies health as well as illness, and disease prevention. To this end, classes may explore biostatistics, health and human growth, and leadership.

What classes could I take with an Online Medical Assistant Degree?

What Accreditation is There for a Medical Assistant Program?
With many online programs out there, it may be wise to check program accreditation. Graduating from an accredited program may be a rule for practice in some states. And, could be a mandatory rule to qualify for industry certs.

Allied Healthcare Scholarship
Health Professions Education Foundation offers annual awards. They are available to California residents who are college freshmen or sophomores. Applicants must attend college in state and have a GPA of at least 2.0. It is also necessary to be an allied health major. There were 239 selectees last year and a payout of $8,000 in funding.

Health Insurance Scholarship
HealthInsuranceAgent.com offers this $1,000 award to one student studying health insurance. Applicants submit an essay or blog post of 500 words or more to apply.
