No Tricks, Just Treats With These Fun Scholarships

The one thing I miss from my childhood is dressing up and heading out with my friends to score candy on Halloween. I would spend weeks coming up with the perfect costume. Only something handmade and unique would do, so creativity was a must. Of course, being a natural redhead, I have donned Jessica Rabbit, Annie and the obligatory Pippi Longstocking outfit, but the majority of my repertoire leaned toward the macabre. Thankfully, The Walking Dead has provided me with an excuse to dress up once again, but it’s not as easy to get people to give me candy. I’m usually met with strange stares or told that I’m a bit too old to be trick-or-treating anymore. Maybe it would work better if I actually tagged along with my kids? Oh well, I guess I need to find something else to occupy my time tonight. If you’ll be staying home this evening, consider using this time to work on scholarships. I’ll even help you fill your goody bag by treating you to seven fun programs that require no special tricks to win.

1. “Show Us Your Best Milk Moustache” Scholarship Contest

If you reside in Arizona, or attend an Arizona school, grab a cold glass of milk and take a ‘selfie’ for this scholarship program. There are three scholarships available ($8,000, $10,000 & $12,000) just for getting your daily dose of calcium. Deadline: November 7.

Fall Scholarships2. Varsity Tutors College Scholarship Contest

Each month, Varsity Tutors gives one student (16 or older) a $1,000 scholarship. All you need to do is submit a short essay (200 words or less) answering the question posted on their website. Deadline: November 15.

3. America’s Teen Model Search

You don’t have to be a model to apply for this $5,000 scholarship. Just submit a head and full body shot for your chance to score the prize. The only stipulation is that you must be a graduating high school senior (2014) to win. Deadline: November 21.

4. Zing Bloggership

Do you use the Internet to inspire others or change lives? Write a blog about it and you could win $1,000 for college. Remember, creativity goes a long way! Deadline: November 30.

Scholarship Treats5. Love Your Body: Poster Contest

This contest is open to students of any age. Simply submit a poster that is no bigger than 9 inches by 12 inches, and includes the words ‘2014 Love Your Body Campaign.’ Four winners will receive prizes valued between $100 and $250 each. Deadline: December 2.

6. Resume Companion $1,000 Scholarship Giveaway

If you are a high school senior or older, be sure to check out this $1,000 scholarship. All you have to do is create a fake résumé based on the life of a fictional or non-fictional person. Just think of all the possibilities! Deadline: December 15.

7. Top Ten List

This could possibly be the easiest scholarship ever. Just list the 10 reasons why you should win a $1,500 scholarship and it could be yours! Any U.S. student 13 years or older can apply. Deadline: December 31.

Applying for scholarships may not be as fun as running around the neighborhood scaring small children and eating loads of sugary treats, but it certainly beats being stuck with a bunch of student loans and dentist bills. Happy Halloween!
