Scholarships for Men

Posted byUnigo Staff May 29, 2015November 18, 2022

This Sunday is Father’s Day, so I thought it might be nice to highlight some of the available scholarships for men. Over the years, I have seen the frustration that many men feel when they are searching for free money for college. Many find it difficult to locate scholarships that don’t require them to be a high school student or part of a minority group. Although there are more scholarship programs that target these demographics, there are several scholarships set aside specifically for men who are 18 years or older. In some cases, they will need to be members of a certain fraternity or be pursuing a specific career path, but others are open to just about any guy who could use a little help paying for college. Take a look at some of the scholarships for men that are currently accepting applications.

1. Robert D. Lynd Scholarship

This $500 scholarship is available to undergraduate members of the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. College sophomores and older are eligible to apply. Deadline: June 15.

2. Scholarships4Dads Scholarship

U.S. men who are 31 years or older may apply for this $10,000 scholarship. Having children is not a requirement. One winner will be selected at random. Deadline: June 15.

Scholarships for Male Nurses3. AAMN Scholarships

The American Assembly for Men in Nursing provides several scholarships each year to male students who are pursuing a nursing career. There are currently three $500 scholarships available for undergraduate students and one $1,000 scholarship open to graduate students. Deadline: July 1.

4. The Distinct Advantage Scholarship

Male students enrolled full-time at a college or university with an Alpha Tau Omega chapter may apply for this $500 scholarship. Membership in Alpha Tau Omega is not required. A total of four scholarships will be offered. Deadline: November 1.

5. Chuck Hall Star of Tomorrow Scholarship

U.S. and international male college students who are members of the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) may be eligible for this $6,000 award. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Deadline: December 1.

6. Iris-Samuel Rothman Scholarship

This scholarship is open to men who have lost both of their parents. It may be used for undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate studies. Awards vary in value from $500 to $5,000 each. Students must attend a New England college or university. Deadline: Rolling.

More Resources

scholarships for gay menAdditional scholarship opportunities will open soon, such as the LAX Scholarship Fund. This program seeks to help gay men who live in the five-county Philadelphia region by awarding several scholarships valued between $4,000 to $8,000 each. Students can also find other scholarships for men at ScholarshipExperts.com.

I know the lack of available men-only scholarships can be upsetting for some, but students should not let this deter them from seeking financial aid for college. There are tons of open scholarship contests that do not consider ethnicity, gender, age, or even academics. Students should remember that when they are searching for free money for college, it’s best to have an open mind and a positive attitude.
