Did you know that November 24 is ‘Celebrate Your Unique Talent Day?’ We all have something that makes us special; some of us can remember long sequences of numbers (not me) or eat spaghetti with our toes (again, not me!). And then, there are those who have some truly unique talents, such as playing an instrument or designing clothes, or even being able to identify all the stars in the sky. The point is, now is the time to embrace those things that set you apart from everyone else and celebrate your special qualities. Oh, and by the way, did you know that those ‘weird’ and ‘unique’ talents could also score you some free college cash? It’s true! In fact, here are some of the scholarships currently being offered to those who have unusual skills and talents.
Forget having great grades or test scores, the peeps at the Colorado Ski Authority want to reward you for your creativity and ability to exemplify the Colorado spirit. If you’re a snow bunny (or boarder) who also gives back to the community, check out this $1,000 scholarship soon. Deadline: December 15.
Do you play a musical instrument? Are you in elementary, middle or high school? You could be on your way to winning one of ten $1,000 scholarships from School Band and Orchestra Magazine. Deadline: December 31.
When you go to buy a birthday card for a friend, do you find yourself thinking that you can make one that looks ten times better? Well, here’s your chance to put your creative talent to the test. One winner will receive a $10,000 scholarship and another $1,000 for his/her school. Deadline: January 15.
The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) offers more than 80 scholarships (valued between $500 and $5,000 each) for those who consider themselves radio amateurs. That’s a lot of dough, good buddy! Deadline: January 31.
If you’re in grades K through 12, and have a passion for ducks and stamps, boy do I have the contest for you! Each year, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service provides a $1,000 (1st), $500 (2nd) and two $200 (3rd & conservation message winner) awards for the best illustration of an eligible duck, goose or swan species. Deadline: March 15.
Do you see math in everyday objects, or enjoy deconstructing math puzzles and problems? There’s something seriously wrong with you (j/k), but it could lead to some big money for college. Grab some other math nerds and create a video showing how you use math in your life. One winning video will receive $4,000. Deadline: May 1.
Hopefully, you've found something here that speaks to your unique talent and skills, but if not, check out the Top Ten List Scholarship and tell ScholarshipExperts.com the ten reasons why you deserve a scholarship. You could explain how your unusual ability makes you ten times more likely to succeed, or showcase ten ways your weird talent has embarrassed you over the years. Be sure to apply before December 31 and remember, your unique talents don’t necessarily make you weird; they just make you, well…YOU!
