Three award levels are available based upon the applicant's degree program. Master's/professional fellowships carry a stipend of $18,000 for the fellowship year; doctoral fellowships carry a stipend of $20,000 for the fellowship year; and post-doctoral fellowships carry a stipend of $30,000 for the fellowship year. All awards are offered on an annual basis and are non-renewable.
The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, 47 awards were offered.
The International Fellowship program has been in existence since 1917. The program provides support for women pursuing full-time graduate or postdoctoral study in the United States who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Preference is given to women who show prior commitment to the advancement of women and girls through civic, community, or professional work. Please note that the following are not eligible to apply for Foundation awards: previous International Fellowship recipients; members of AAUW; AAUW Educational Foundation, Legal Advocacy Fund, and Association boards, committees, panels, task forces, staff, members, and current interns. The applicant must intend to return to her home country after completing her graduate program to pursue a professional career.
