Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be in grades 9, 10, 11, or 12 at the time of application.
  2. Must be enrolled in a public, private, parochial or a home-study program in Texas.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must have an interest in art.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is open to Texas high school students. Students must submit a piece of patriotic art (digital art not accepted). Additional Information: VFW Post 6899 and Ladies Auxiliary will judge all entries and select winners. The first-place winner's entry will be submitted for competition at the state level. The state-level winner will go on to compete at the national level.

Award Amount: Award amounts are as follows: first place, $500; second place, $300; third place, $200.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Contest information and an entry form are available on the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 6899 website. Please note: This is the local competition level of the National Patriotic Art Competition. Students must submit an art entry with a patriotic theme. If the American Flag is used in the entry, such use must conform to the Federal Flag Code. Art must be on paper or canvas. Water color, pencil, pastel, charcoal, tempera, crayon, acrylic, pen-and-ink, or oil may be used. Digital art is not accepted. The art should be no smaller than 8" x 10" but no larger than 18" x 24", not including mat. Entries should not be framed. Interested students should contact the VFW Post 6899 for more information. Entries must be submitted by Mar. 31.
