Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a college junior or senior in the upcoming academic year.
  4. Must be enrolled in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology studies. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate an interest in power engineering.
  5. Preference will be given to students who reside OR attend school in the American Electric Power service area of Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
  6. Must be enrolled full time.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. college sophomores or juniors enrolled in an mechanical engineering or related program are eligible for this award. Preference will be given to students who are interested in power engineering and/or who reside or attend school in the American Electric Power service area of Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Additional Information: This scholarship fund was established by a generous endowment from American Electric Power. Applicants must be enrolled in an ABET-accredited school for the upcoming academic year. Information regarding accreditation status is available online at main.abet.org/aps/Accreditedprogramsearch.aspx. Applicants also must have established a grade point average in their degree programs to qualify. If applicants have not established a grade point average at the college level, they are not eligible to apply. The award recipients will be selected on the basis of scholastic ability and potential contribution to the mechanical engineering profession. All applicants will be notified of the scholarship results between June 15 and July 1. Scholarship money will be sent to scholarship winners by the end of August.

Award Amount: $4,000 annually, non-renewable. Scholarship awardees from past years will not be selected to receive additional scholarships. Students must apply again each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.
