Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a high school senior at time of application.
  3. Must be a U.S. resident.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 3.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  5. Must rank in the 90th percentile in both math and critical reading on SAT I, or in composite ACT score.
  6. Must pursue an engineering or related science degree through an ABET-accredited program. A list of ABET-accredited programs is available at main.abet.org/aps/Accreditedprogramsearch.aspx.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Current high school seniors planning to enroll in an ABET-accredited engineering program are eligible for this award. Students must have a grade point average of 3.75 or higher and SAT/ACT scores in the 90th percentile.

Additional Information: This annual scholarship is provided by BMW AG in recognition of its commitment to excellence in engineering. BMW is world famous for designing and building luxury, high-performance passenger cars and motorcycles. The company is also a leader in developing and manufacturing high technology, high performance internal combustion engines. Scholarship recipients will be notified by June 30. All SAE scholarship winners will be posted in July/August.

Award Amount: $1,500  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

Applications are available online from the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) website by clicking on the "Freshman Year of College Scholarships" link. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following materials: a copy of his/her SAT/ACT scores if not included on his/her transcript (copy printed from website acceptable); and an official high school transcript. Application materials must be submitted online by the deadline.
