Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 15 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be 18 years of age or younger as of October 1, 2019.
  4. Must have completed a 'significant piece of work' in one of the designated submission categories. Categories include science, technology, mathematics, music (composer, vocalist, classical instrumentalist, or jazz instrumentalist), literature, philosophy, or a combination of these categories.
  5. Must plan to attend an accredited institution of higher education to apply for this freshman year award.

Additional Information: Applicants must complete a project in the field of science, technology, mathematics, music, literature, philosophy, or a combination of these disciplines with a project considered 'Outside the Box.' Each submission must be a piece of original work recognized by experts in the field as "significant" AND it must have the potential to make a positive contribution to society. The following criteria will be used for the selection of Davidson Fellows: quality and scope of entry (50 points), the level of significance of the work (30 points), and the applicant's depth of knowledge and understanding of the work and the related domain area (20 points). Recipients must be available to attend, with at least one parent or guardian, the awards reception and other recognition events to be held in Washington D.C. (Travel expenses and lodging will be paid by the Davidson Institute.)

Award Amount: $10,000, $25,000, and $50,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $150,000.
