Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must have a concentrated program of study that requires a minimum of 24 undergraduate credit hours in American history or American government.
  4. Must be a graduating high school senior at time of application.

Description: The Dr. Aura-Lee A. and James Hobbs Pittenger American History Scholarship is awarded to graduating high school students who will pursue an undergraduate degree with a concentrated study of a minimum of 24 credit hours in American History and American Government. Renewal is conditional upon maintenance of a GPA of 3.25 or better.

Additional Information: The Dr. Aura-Lee A. and James Hobbs Pittenger American History Scholarship is an award of $2,000 each year for up to four years with annual transcript review by the National Chairman required for renewal. General Eligibility Requirements include: Applicants must be citizens of the United States to apply for a scholarship offered by the DAR Scholarship Committee. Applicants must also attend or plan to attend an accredited college or university in the United States. DAR chapter sponsorship is not required. But, applicants may want to reach out to a DAR chapter in their area for help with their applications.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, renewable for up to three years. The scholarship is renewable only after review and approval of an annual official transcript.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.
