Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, 24 awards were offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  4. Must be a high school senior at time of application.

Description: This award is available for U.S. high school seniors with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher who are able to demonstrate financial need.

Application requirements for the Hadden Scholarship are:

Additional Information: The scholarship committee selects the recipients after carefully evaluating character, scholastic records, financial need, extracurricular activities and employment experience. No scholarship is given to a student unless his/her college has agreed to refrain from reducing its own scholarship grant at the expense of the Youth Foundation's award. Final decisions with regard to the amount of the award, applicant's qualifications and choice of college are at the full discretion of Youth Foundation's scholarship committee and its board of directors. Interviews may be required. Recipients will be notified of the awards in late May or early June.

Award Amount: $2,500 to $4,000 annually, renewable for three additional years at the foundation's discretion. Individual scholarship size may fluctuate over time depending upon the size of the foundation's endowment.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $13,000.

Applications are available online from the Youth Foundation website and are accepted starting on January 21. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following items in the sequence indicated: a preliminary financial summary; transcripts including ACT/SAT scores; a brief description of his/her aims, hopes, and goals as detailed on the application (written by hand and typed); two letters of recommendation on letterhead; a family financial statement to include the student's summer earnings, photocopies of Federal Income Tax Returns with all schedules for the last filed year, all W-2 and 1099 forms due for the current year, for himself/herself and each of his/her parents. The student must also attach a signed photograph to the top righthand corner of his/her application. For security purposes, the applicant must black out Social Security Numbers on transcripts, SAT/ACT scores, and tax forms. All application items must be submitted in one large, flat envelope. The student must write "DEPT. SA" in the lower left-hand corner of his/her application envelope. If the student wishes to be notified of his/her application status, he/she must enclose a stamped, self-addressed business-size envelope. All applications and supporting materials must be postmarked by the deadline date.
