Additional Information: Students interested in the life and works of Jane Austen are encouraged to enter. Selection is based will be based on creativity, originality, and quality of content. Winning entries will be selected and posted online in September following the application deadline.

Award Amount: The first place winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship, second place will receive a $500 scholarship, and third place will receive a $250 scholarship. All winners will also receive a 1-yr. membership in JASNA and free registration and two nights lodging for JASNA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,750.

This is an essay contest. Entry forms and the essay topic are available online from the Jane Austin Society of North America website. The current year Essay Contest topic is available at the provider website and all essays must address the related themes. Each applicant must submit an essay, six to eight pages in length, which should contain personal and original insight into Jane Austen's artistry, ideas and values. The student may also include a statement about the individual or teacher most influential in teaching him/her to appreciate literature, particularly Jane Austen. A works cited page should follow the essay. The essay must use MLA notation. Essays must be submitted online by the deadline date.
