Number of Awards & Eligibility: A total of $5,000 will be awarded annually. The number and amount of scholarships to be given shall be determined annually by the NFPA Board of Directors.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a high school graduate or older at time of application.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Must be enrolled or accepted in an accredited paralegal education program or college-level program with an emphasis in paralegal studies.
  5. Must be a part-time or full-time student.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for U.S. high school graduates enrolled or accepted in a paralegal education program, with an emphasis in paralegal studies at time of application. Students must also have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Application requirements for the NFPA Thomson Reuters Scholarship are:

  • Official Transcript
  • Essay
Additional Information: An applicant may be disqualified for a felony or comparable crime, as defined by an individual state that does not have felony designations; or if the applicant is currently under the suspension, termination, or revocation of a certificate, registration of a certificate, registration or license to practice by a professional organization, court, disciplinary board or agency in any jurisdiction. Scholarships will be presented at the NFPA Annual Convention. A travel stipend will be provided to award recipients so they may receive their award at the NFPA Annual Convention. Selection will be based upon scholastic excellence, participation in campus and paralegal program leadership activities, community service, and review of the writing sample. *Please note: Proven need for financial assistance may be considered. NFPA membership is not a requirement.

Award Amount: One award will be provided at $3,000 and one award will be provided at $2,000. All awards are granted on a one-time basis and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications will become available on the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit three copies of the following: a letter of recommendation from either the director or an instructor of his/her paralegal education program OR an employer; an official copy of the applicant's most recent transcript (high school transcripts are acceptable, if the student has not completed a full college semester); and a short essay that addresses the topic listed on the application. Applications and supporting documents must be submitted online by the deadline date. Any late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.
