Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society

Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately thirty awards are offered each year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a child of a Sailor or Marine who died on active duty or after retirement.
  2. Must be an un-remarried spouse of a Navy or Marine Corps service member who died in service during a conflict named within the application.
  3. Must have a demonstrated financial need for assistance/ Student Aid Report (SAR)
  4. Must be enrolled full-time for the entire academic year, and pursuing a first undergraduate degree at a qualifying school.
  5. Must maintain 2.0 or better GPA on a 4.0 grade scale.

Description: The U.S. Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society sponsors the Gold Star Scholarship Program. It is for the dependent children and spouses of Navy and Marine personnel who were killed in the line of duty. Awards are decided by a blend of financial need and academic merit. Awards range from $500 to $2500 per academic year.

Application requirements for the NMCRS Gold Star Scholarship Fund are:

  • Student Aid Report (SAR)
  • FAFSA
  • Application form(PDF)
  • Official Transcript
  • Copy of the DD 1300 or a death certificate.
Additional Information: The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society provides education scholarships. Award Amount: Education scholarships of $500 to $2500 per academic year to pay for tuition, books, fees, room, and board. Recipients are notified by mail. If you receive a scholarship, the funds will be sent directly to your school to cover the upcoming school year. You’ll need to reapply for each academic year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.
