Additional Information

The Prudential Spirit of Community Award seeks to award students in middle and high school who have shown a strong commitment to their communities through volunteer work and service. The awards program was created in 1995 and is sponsored by Prudential in cooperation with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). Local honorees are selected through participating schools and organizations in November, and from these selected winners, two state honorees are chosen in each state and the District of Columbia. Finally, 10 national honorees will be chosen by a panel of prominent evaluators and announced at a special awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. in May. Applicants must have engaged in at least one major volunteer initiative or service activity that occurred, at least partly, during the year before the application deadline date. Previous state honorees may be eligible to reapply if and only if their submitted activities are significantly different and unique from any previously honored activities.
