Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a high school senior, vocational student or current undergraduate student to apply for this award.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  4. Must be 25 years old or younger.
  5. Must have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: The Shawn Carter Foundation (SCF) was founded on the belief that any motivated individual in need should have the opportunity to further his or her education. This scholarship is for U.S. students who are 25 years old or younger. Students must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher. Financial need is considered.

Application requirements for the Shawn Carter Scholarship Fund are:

  • FAFSA or Recent Tax Form
  • Official/Unofficial Transcript
  • Financial Aid Award Letter
  • Essay
Additional Information: Winners will be chosen based on the following criteria: leadership skills, community service, socio-economic factors, the quality of their essay, and other strengths they may possess. All Shawn Carter Scholars are required to “give back” by conducting community service and by serving as mentors to younger, aspiring Shawn Carter Scholars.

Award Amount: $1,500 to $2,500 annually. Applicants may reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available from April 1 through April 30 on the provider's website. Students must complete the online application and upload the following documents: FAFSA or most recent 1040 tax form; a scanned image or PDF file of their most recent transcript; proof of income; and a copy of their college financial aid award letter. Students must also submit an essay addressing one of the topics provided. All supporting documents must be uploaded or sent to the email provided, prior to submitting the application. Any application received without the required documentation will not be considered. Once students start their application, they may pause and continue at a later time, but they will not be allowed to continue past the deadline date.
