Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a graduating high school senior.
  4. Must attend a high school (public or parochial) in Berks County, Pennsylvania.
  5. Must have played on his/her high school's golf, basketball, or baseball teams for two or more years, AND must intend to play golf, basketball, or baseball on his/her college's team.
  6. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or 80 percent or higher on a 100 percent scale.

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. high school seniors who attend a high school in Berks County, Pennsylvania, and have played on their school's golf, basketball, or baseball teams for two or more years and will play on their college's team. Students must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher (or 80 percent or higher) and financial need.

Additional Information: This scholarship was established at Berks County Community Foundation in 2006 in memory of Irv Noll. This scholarship was established after Irv's death by family and friends to memorialize the spirit that represents Irv "Pug" Noll. Scholarship recipients must possess the qualities that made Irv special: those of kindness, caring, sportsmanship, generosity, persistence, vigor, and a positive attitude in all of life that allows the individual to succeed in challenging circumstances. Students must have a financial need. All applicants will be notified in May. Berks County Community Foundation employees, board members and/or committee members are not eligible to apply for or be nominated for a scholarship offered by Berks County Community Foundation, nor are their immediate family members. However, immediate family members are eligible to be nominated and recognized as the recipient of a scholarship, but without the financial award of the scholarship. Immediate families include spouses; children, stepchildren, grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, and their respective spouses; siblings and their spouses; and ancestors. The ineligibility period for Berks County Community Foundation board members or employees and their family members extends five years after board service or employment terminates. The ineligibility period for committee members who are not Berks County Community Foundation staff or board is in effect only during their term of service and is only related to the committee on which they make decisions.

Award Amount: $400 annually, non-renewable. This scholarship will be paid after the recipient's freshman year in college, upon receipt of a letter from the student indicating that he/she will continue matriculating for the sophomore year and a certificate or letter from the college coach that indicates that he/she participated on the school's athletic team for the freshman year and he/she will participate on the team for the sophomore year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $400.

Applications are available on the Berks County Community Foundation (BCCF) website. All applicants must apply via the BCCF online application. Students must create an account to access the application. As part of the application, the student will be required to submit the following materials: an essay of 250 to 500 words that describes the athlete he/she admires the most; his/her most recent high school transcript; a commitment letter from the coach at the college where he/she will be playing; and contact information for one of his/her high school athletic coaches who will write a letter of recommendation on his/her behalf. The recommender will receive instructions via email for submitting the letter. Applications must be submitted by the deadline date.
