The monetary award amount varies and is determined by the scholarship provider. Generally, scholarships offered through the foundation are a minimum of $500 to a maximum of $12,000. The average award amount per recipient last year was over $4,000. The award is offered annually, and is non-renewable.
The number of awards offered varies annually. In the past, one scholarship has been awarded. Students may apply for and receive more than one scholarship through the Pride Foundation.
Recognizing the tremendous financial need of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students, as well as straight ally students in the region, Pride Foundation began its scholarship program to help develop tomorrow's leaders that work for social justice. Since 1993 the foundation has helped more than 400 students achieve their educational goals. The applicant will be notified by early April confirming whether she has been selected for the interview stage of the scholarship process (students who have not been selected will also be notified). Final selection of scholarship recipients will be made in late April or early May. If the applicant would like his/her submitted materials returned to him/her, enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope or make other arrangements with Pride Foundation by using the contact information provided. Preference is given to students who are self-identified lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgendered; members of LGBT families; or allies who have been strongly supportive of the LGBT community.
