Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must attend John Jay Senior High School or Roy C. Ketcham High School.
  2. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  3. Must participate in sports and/or other extracurricular activities.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

Description: This award is available for current high school seniors who are graduating from John Jay High School or Roy C. Ketcham High School. Students must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher and demonstrate participation in sports, leadership, or other community activities.

Additional Information: This scholarship established by family and friends of Jay Lamando to honor his personal challenges against diabetes, and seeks to recognize the impact others can have on an individual life through character, discipline, family, and teamwork.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available online from the Community Foundation of Hudson Valley website at the address provided. In addition to the completed application, each applicant must submit two letters of recommendation (one academic and one personal); a copy of his/her most recent transcript; a copy of the student's Student Aid Report (SAR) and Expected Family Contribution (EFC) information; and an essay of approximately 500 words responding to the prompt listed on the application. The Student Aid Report (SAR) is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Applications must be completed online by the deadline date.
