Many large state universities are known for their academics, research programs, alumni network — and football! Being a part of a college football team means that you are a part of the school’s spirit and tradition. Finding a scholarship to play football, however, can be very competitive. Not only do athletes need to impress scouts, coaches, and recruiters, they also need to impress the college admissions council with their GPA. A good combination of both talent and academics can help football players gain scholarships offered by the NCAA, as a minimum GPA is required for many of these awards. Fisher Cats Foundation Scholarship

New Hampshire and Massachusetts graduating high school seniors are eligible for this award. Students must participate in athletics; applications will be judged on academic performance, athletic achievement, and citizenship.

Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship

This scholarship is open to U.S. high school juniors who have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher. Students must participate in an individual or team sport sponsored by a school or local club.

UWANTGAME Leaders in Sports Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is open to U.S. high school seniors who attend high school in Houston, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; or New York, New York; students must participate in a high school athletic team in select sports or attend the Business of Sports School in New York, New York. Students must demonstrate financial need and have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

This award is for U.S. students who are planning to attend or are currently attending Columbia College of Missouri. Students must demonstrate talent in art, music, or athletics to be eligible for this award.

TFMJF Advancement of Women in Sports & Entertainment Scholarship

Current undergraduate women in Nevada are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Applicants must be majoring in public relations, communication, media studies, marketing or journalism and must be planning to pursue a career in sports or sports broadcasting.

BigSun Scholarship

The BigSun Athletics Scholarship is offered to high school seniors and undergraduate students without regard to any particular sport.

GM Genius

The GM Genius Scholarship Contest is available for U.S. high school students who are between the ages of 13 and 19. To be considered, applicants must participate in a weekly fantasy football league that includes short educational videos and quizzes about leadership and critical thinking.

Foot Locker Scholar Athletes Program

This scholarship is open to U.S. high school seniors who are currently involved in high school or after-school sports. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

This scholarship is available for Latino/Latina youth under age 25 with a preference for students involved in athletics and students committed to LGBT equality.

Pride Foundation Varsity Athletics Scholarship

This award is available for U.S. citizens who have been living in Washington state, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, or Alaska for at least one year. Applicants must have experience in participatory athletics, and preferably, at the varsity level. Preference is given to self-identified LGBT students, members of LGBT families, and straight allies who have been supportive of the LGBT community.

Edward Louis Flom Memorial HCC Scholarship

This scholarship is available for high school seniors in Hillsborough County, Florida who are planning to attend Hillsborough Community College. Applicants must participate in a sports team, must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher, and must qualify for free or reduced-cost school lunches.
