Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually, one to a student from each eligible high school.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must attend Beacon High School, John Jay High School, or Roy C. Ketcham High School.
  2. Must demonstrate participation in sports or other community activities.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

Description: This award is available to currently graduating high school seniors at Beacon High School, John Jay High School, or Roy C. Ketcham High School in the mid-Hudson Valley region of New York State. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and a commitment to community service.

Application requirements for the Maynard and Ferne Brownell Family Scholarship are:

Additional Information: This award has been established by the family of Maynard and Ferne Brownell. One scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from Beacon High School, John Jay High School or Roy C. Ketcham High School. The scholarship shall be applied to tuition costs at accredited colleges or universities for a period not to exceed four (4) years. Candidates should have a strong academic record, strong participation in sports activies and/or community service and demonstrate financial need.

Award Amount: $750 annually, renewable for up to three additional years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Applications are available online from the Community Foundation of Hudson Valley website at the address provided. In addition to the completed application, each applicant must submit two letters of recommendation (one academic and one personal); a copy of his/her most recent transcript; a copy of the student's Student Aid Report (SAR) and Expected Family Contribution (EFC) information; and an essay of approximately 500 words responding to the prompt listed on the application. The Student Aid Report (SAR) is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Applications must be completed online by the deadline date.
