Number of Awards & Eligibility: Four awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be between the ages of 12 and 21.
  3. Must play tennis competitively.
  4. Must have diabetes (type 1 or 2).

Description: This award is available for competitive tennis players between the ages of 12 and 21. Applicants must be diagnosed with diabetes and demonstrate financial need.

Application requirements for the Novo Nordisk Donnelly Award are:

  • Tax return (finalists only)
  • Doctor verification (finalists only)
Additional Information: The awards provide college scholarships to young tennis players suffering from diabetes and are named after two long-time World Team Tennis executives and tennis champions, Diane Donnelly Stone and Tracey Donnelly Maltby. Students must demonstrate financial need.

Award Amount: Two national awards of $5,000 each are offered annually. In addition, the national winners will receive an expense-paid trip to a World Team Tennis match in July to receive their awards from Billie Jean King. Six regional awards, of $2,500 each will also be offered annually. These awards will not be presented in person. All awards are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,125.

Applications are available on the World Team Tennis (WTT) Charities website in the 'Events, Clubs, and Awards' section. In addition to the completed application, the following items must be submitted by all applicants: two letters of recommendation; and a short essay regarding the significance of diabetes in his/her life. Please note: Finalists will be asked to submit a doctor's statement verifying they have diabetes and may be asked to submit parents' tax returns from the previous two years. All applications, letters of recommendation, and essays must be received by mail or email no later than the deadline date.
