Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must reside in Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Grainger, Jefferson, Knox, Loudon, Roane, Sevier, or Union counties in Tennessee.
  2. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  4. Must participate in the Youth Athletic Program (YAP) of the Knoxville Track Club.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.
  6. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  7. Must plan to enroll full time at an accredited, non-profit college or university.

Description: This scholarship is available for high school seniors in Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Grainger, Jefferson, Knox (TN), Loudon, Roane, Sevier, or Union Counties of TN. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and must participate in the Youth Athletic Program (YAP) of the Knoxville Track Club.

Additional Information: This scholarship was established in 2009 to memorialize the life of Hal Canfield, the founding member of the Knoxville Track Club. Awards will be provided to students in the Knoxville, TN area who are active in track and particularly, the Youth Athletic Program (YAP) at the Knoxville Track Club. Additional preference and consideration will be given to applicants who are planning to attend a school in Tennessee and work in the Eastern Tennessee area following graduation. Factors to be considered by the selection committee will be: financial need; general aptitude for advanced educational work; evidence of participation in and service to the community; participation in youth track programs; and the maturity and professionalism of the student, in that order of importance. The selection committee reserves the right to conduct brief interviews with finalists.

Award Amount: $1,900 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,900.

Applications are available on the East Tennessee Foundation website. Prior to starting the application, students must obtain a copy of the East Tennessee Foundation scholarship guide and application instructions. The guide can be obtained online from the East Tennessee Foundation website. Students must review this guide in order to determine if additional supplementary materials may be required to apply for this award, and how those materials should be prepared. Applications must be completed online no later than the deadline date.
