Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. The Freemont Foundation awarded eight scholarships across its high school senior, undergraduate, and graduate programs for the prior academic year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a high school senior anticipating graduation from a United States high school in spring.
  4. Must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent).
  5. Must have an ACT composite score of 21 or higher OR an SAT combined score of 1150 or higher.
  6. Must plan to matriculate in college/university for the upcoming academic year with the intention of maintaining full-time status for the entire year. Please note: Enrollment must begin in the fall semester.
  7. Must apply to and be accepted into an accredited HBCU (Historically Black College/University) by July 1.
  8. Must plan to have a career in the sciences.

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. high school seniors who plan to attend an HBCU (Historically Black College/University) and have a career in the sciences. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and an ACT score of 21 or higher or an SAT score of 1150 or higher.

Additional Information: A rigorous application review includes an analysis of grades, standardized test scores (high school seniors), student essays, and letters of recommendation. Freemont Scholars are selected based on exceptional academic ability and achievement and a record of leadership and volunteerism in the community. The scholarships will be awarded in April.

Award Amount: The amount of each award varies annually. Scholarships are non-renewable; however, previous recipients may reapply.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,875.

Applications are available on the Freemont Foundation website. In addition to a completed application, each student must submit the following materials: an essay of 300 to 350 words addressing the topic "Why I am choosing the sciences as a career"; a resume/list of activities; two copies of his/her most recent official high school transcript (both copies must have school stamp/seal); and a copy of his/her ACT and/or SAT scores. The application must be signed by the student's high school guidance counselor. The student's name must appear on all materials. Materials should not be stapled. Complete application packages must be mailed to the address provided and must be postmarked by the deadline date.
