Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. *Please note: The number of scholarships awarded is determined by the amount of funding available. Last year, about 320 students received the scholarship.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident. International students visiting the United States with F, B, M, J, or other visas are not eligible for this award.
  3. Must attend a college or graduate or professional school located in the New York metropolitan area and must be physically in attendance at a New York metropolitan area campus. Students who are studying abroad or at satellite campuses or who are completing internships outside of the New York metropolitan area are not eligible to apply.
  4. Must be Jewish.
  5. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.
  6. Must be a resident of either New York City or the counties of Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester (the New York metropolitan area). Please note that returning students not originally residents of the New York metropolitan area who have registered to vote in the New York metropolitan area are deemed to be New York metropolitan area residents for purposes of applying for this scholarship.
  7. Must demonstrate significant financial need.

Description: This award is for Jewish students living in and studying in the New York metropolitan area. Applicants must demonstrate significant financial need. This program provides approximately $1 million to students in financial need each year. Click here to learn more and apply today!

Application requirements for the UJA- Federation of New York Rose Biller Scholarship Program are:

  • Application form
  • FAFSA received by July 8
  • Financial Aid Assessment form
Additional Information: Biller Scholarships will not be awarded to medical, dental or law students (with the exception of CUNY law students).

Award Amount: Up to $5,000 annually. Awards are not automatically renewable; however, applicants are encouraged to reapply each year. Students already receiving a scholarship will be sent a renewal application by mail.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available on the Hebrew Free Loan Society (HFLS) website after April 1. Students must complete the scholarship application online. The application does not have to be completed in one sitting; the student will create an account so he/she can save his/her work and log in at a later time. Only one application is required for all HFLS scholarships. After submission of the application, the student will be told which scholarships he/she is eligible for. A complete application must also include the most recent Financial Aid Assessment form (available online on the HFLS website). The student's financial aid office must complete and submit this form. Please note: The financial aid office will require information from the student's FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to complete the form. Therefore, the student's FAFSA must be on file at his/her institution before the form can be completed. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The Financial Aid Assessment form must be faxed or mailed using the contact information provided by the student's college's financial aid office, and must be received by July 10.
