Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies annually based on the number of eligible applicants and available funding. In the 2014-2015 academic year, there were 90 initial awards disbursed.

Description: This award is available to Florida high school seniors who are planning to attend Florida A&M University, Bethune-Cookman University, Edward Waters College, or Florida Memorial University. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate financial need (as determined by the institution).

Additional Information: The Mary McLeod Bethune Scholarship (MMB) provides financial assistance to undergraduate students who meet scholastic requirements, demonstrate financial need, and attend eligible postsecondary institutions. Financial need is determined by each institution. Eligible students must not owe a repayment or be in default under any state or federal grant, loan, or scholarship program unless satisfactory arrangements to repay have been made. Award procedures are as follows. The postsecondary institution shall rank all eligible applicants on the basis of financial need. If additional ranking is needed, the institution shall further rank applicants on the basis of highest cumulative grade point average. The institution shall notify each student in writing of the status of the student's application. The institution may prorate its scholarship allocation equally among all eligible initial, renewal, and reinstatement students.

Award Amount: Up to $3,000 annually, renewable for a maximum of eight semesters (twelve quarters) over a period of six consecutive years, or until the student receives a baccalaureate degree, whichever occurs first. Undergraduate students participating in college-preparatory instruction, students requiring additional time to complete the college-level communication and computation skills testing programs (CLAST), or students enrolled in a five-year undergraduate degree program are eligible to receive financial aid for a maximum of 10 semesters or 15 quarters. A renewal applicant must have earned a minimum institutional cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and earned the equivalent of 12 credit hours for each term an award was received during the academic year. Eligibility for renewal is determined at the end of the second semester or third quarter of each academic year. Credit hours earned during the previous summer can be counted toward the total number of credit hours required. A student should consult the postsecondary institution for renewal requirements established by the institution.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,214.
