Number of Awards & Eligibility: Last year, one award was offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S students.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  3. Must enroll for 12 credit hours or more at an accredited four-year college or university.
  4. Must pursue a degree in occupational safety and health.
  5. Priority is given to students with an interest in construction safety.
  6. Must have completed 60 undergraduate credit hours or more at time of application, but must not be graduating before May.
  7. Priority will be given to students attending Murray State in Murray, Kentucky; Montana Tech in Butte, Montana; or Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for college juniors who are pursuing a degree in occupational safety and health with an emphasis on construction safety. The applicant must enroll full time and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Priority will be given to students with an emphasis in construction safety attending Murray State in Murray, Kentucky; Montana Tech in Butte, Montana; or Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA.

Additional Information: The Bechtel Foundation Scholarship Program for Safety and Health requires that the applicant to be an ASSE Student Member. If the student is not already an ASSE member, he/she may apply for membership at time of scholarship application. The membership costs $15 per year. To apply for membership, the applicant must contact ASSE's Customer Service Department at 1-847-699-2929 or visit online at www.asse.org and select 'Membership', then 'Join'. The winners' names will be posted on the foundation's website on or around April or May.

Award Amount: $10,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

Applications are available on the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) website. To find information about this award, the applicant should click on the 'ASSE Foundation' link. In addition to a completed online application, the applicant must also submit the following: an official transcript verifying good academic standing, completion of 60 semester hours or more, and his/her overall grade point average; responses to the short answer questions listed on the application; and a reference letter from a safety faculty member verifying the applicant's official enrollment in occupational safety and health or a closely related field, and his/her enrollment of 12 credit hours per semester or more. If the applicant has any questions regarding the application process, he/she should send an email to the email address provided (the applicant should not call ASSE). Applications must be completed online by 11:30 pm on the deadline date.
