Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a first generation college student. A student is considered "first generation" if neither of the student's parents earned a college degree at the baccalaureate level or higher. A student who regularly resided with and received support from only one parent who did not earn a baccalaureate degree would also be eligible.
  2. Must be enrolled or accepted at a Florida state university or Florida college (public community college).
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
  4. Must not have previously received a baccalaureate degree.
  5. Must enroll in a minimum of six credit hours per term.
  6. This award is for U.S. students.
  7. Must be a Florida resident.

Description: This award is available to Florida high school seniors and undergraduate students who are enrolled in at least six semester hours at an eligible Florida college or university. The applicant must demonstrate unmet financial need of $200 or more (as determined by the institution) and be a first generation college student.

Additional Information: The First Generation Matching Grant Program (FGMG) is a need-based grant program available to degree-seeking resident undergraduate students who demonstrate substantial financial need. Students must have met the eligibility requirements in Section 1009.50, Florida Statutes, for demonstrated financial need for the Florida Public Student Assistance Grant. Generally, this requires students have unmet financial need of $200 or more. Eligible students must: not owe a repayment or be in default under any state or federal grant, loan, or scholarship program unless satisfactory arrangements to repay have been made; meet additional eligibility requirements as established by the postsecondary institution.

Award Amount: The award amount varies annually. Each postsecondary institution determines the award amount for eligible students. Recipients should consult their institution for renewal, reinstatement, or restoration requirements established by the institution.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.
