Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund
$550 to $1,000 annually, depending on enrollment status, renewable for four to five years as long as the student maintains a grade point average of 2.0 or higher. The scholarship can be used for any expense related to the student's education, including transportation, child care, housing and utilities, medical insurance, school supplies, glasses, computers and desks, clothing and food for children, and other day-to-day necessities.
Approximately 370 awards offered annually.
In addition to demonstrating financial need, the student must also be in the process of applying for or be the recipient of a Pell Grant. Application for the Pell Grant is made by filing a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. This scholarship is intended to provide support to single parents looking for higher education opportunities that will lead to a greater self-sufficiency. The scholarship encourages students to enter school and prevents them from dropping out of school because of unexpected financial hardships.
