Number of Awards & Eligibility: Varies, all eligible students who are attending an eligible postsecondary institution will be considered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have graduated from a Kentucky high school.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
  5. Must be a high school graduate or older (home school and GED graduates are also eligible).
  6. Must plan to enroll at eligible college or university in Kentucky.
  7. Must be a resident of Kentucky.

Additional Information: The Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES) is a state program, administered by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) and funded by Kentucky Lottery proceeds, established to provide merit based awards to exceptional high school students who are planning to attend and eligible postsecondary institution in Kentucky. A list of eligible schools is available on the KHEAA website. Eligibility is based on high school grade point average, ACT/SAT scores, home school and GED graduates may earn awards based on ACT scores. Postsecondary institutions will report enrollment data and student eligibility information to KHEAA after classes begin each semester.

Award Amount: Award amounts are determined by KHEAA based on the student's high school grade point average for each academic year in high school. Students who meet the program's GPA requirements may earn between $125 and $500 during the freshmen through senior year of high school. The end value of the award is determined upon high school graduation and is equal to the cumulative total earned during each year of high school. Awards are automatically renewable for up to three additional years providing the student continues to maintain satisfactory academic progress (as determined by the participating institution). Students may also receive an additional award of up to $500 per year based on his/her ACT/SAT score. Awards are prorated for students who are enrolled part-time (six or more credit hours). A detailed view of the award amounts is available from the KHEAA website. Students who were eligible for free or reduced-price lunches during any year of high school may earn an additional KEES award by achieving qualifying scores on Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations. These bonus awards range from $200 to $300 for an AP score of 3-5 or an IB score of 5-7; students can earn a bonus award for each eligible exam score received.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,381.
