Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  3. Must enroll on a full-time basis.
  4. Must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program.
  5. Must be the dependent child of a New Jersey law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty.
  6. Must be enrolled at an approved New Jersey college or university. A list of institutions is available online at www.njgrants.org.

Description: This scholarship is available to dependent children of New Jersey law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. Students must be enrolled in an undergraduate course of study at an approved New Jersey college or university.

Additional Information: The Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Scholarships Program provides scholarships for full-time undergraduate study at approved New Jersey institutions of higher education to the dependent children of New Jersey law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

Award Amount: The scholarship covers up to the cost of attendance, less other scholarships, grants, benefits and other assistance awarded under HESAA statute. Awards are renewable for up to four years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $28,829.

Applications are available online on the New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (NJHESAA) website or by calling call 609-584-4480. In addition to the completed application, students must provide documentation verifying his/her relationship to the deceased and submit a letter from the organization with which his/her deceased parent was affiliated stating that the deceased was killed in the line of duty. The application and all supporting documents must be submitted on or before Oct.1 to be considered for the award year or by March 1 to be considered for the spring semester only.
