The Exemption for the Surviving Spouse and Minor Children of Certain Deceased Public Servants Program is a state program, created by the state of Texas, established to provide free tuition and fees, free textbooks, and possibly free room and board to certain students whose parent or spouse was killed in the line of duty while employed in certain public service positions. The public employee must have died in the performance of his/her duty on or after Sept. 1, 2000. Eligibility is limited to only public colleges or universities in Texas.
