Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards may vary based on the number of eligible students and available funding.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have been a resident of New Jersey for 12 consecutive months prior to receiving the award.
  3. Must demonstrate an educationally and economically disadvantaged background. The student's household's gross income must fall within the EOF criteria as posted online at www.nj.gov/highereducation/EOF/EOF_Eligibility.shtml.
  4. Must apply and be accepted to a participating New Jersy college or university. A list of participating institutions is available online at www.nj.gov/highereducation/EOF/EOF_programs.shtml.
  5. Must be enrolled in an associate's or bachelor's degree program.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.

Additional Information: The New Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) is one of the nation’s most comprehensive and successful state-supported efforts to provide access to higher education for economically and educationally disadvantaged students. EOF grants assist low-income residents who are capable and motivated but lack adequate preparation for college study. EOF supports a wide array of campus-based outreach and support services to help program participants succeed and graduate. The Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) is a campus-based program. This means that each participating institution is responsible for student recruitment, selection, program services, and its own specific criteria for EOF admission and program participation.

Award Amount: Award amounts range from $200 to $2,500. The amount varies depending upon financial need, cost of attendance, and available funding. Awards are renewable annually based on continued eligibility.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,945.

Information on this program is available on the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education website by clicking on the "Educational Opportunity Fund" tab. There are three steps that students should follow to apply for this program. The first step is to apply and be accepted to a participating New Jersey college or university. A list of participating institutions is available online at www.nj.gov/highereducation/EOF/EOF_programs.shtml. The second step is to file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The final step is to contact the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) director at the college or university the student plans to attend. Each college/university has its own specific criteria for EOF admission and program participation. Students must contact the EOF director at the institution they wish to attend for specific admissions information and requirements for participation in the EOF program. For the 2016-2017 academic year, the FAFSA must be submitted by the following dates for New Jersey financial aid consideration: midnight CT on June 1, 2016, for Tuition Aid Grant recipients; midnight CT on Oct. 1, 2016, for all other students for fall and spring terms; and by midnight CT on March 1, 2017, for spring term only.
