Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
The award covers the cost of one year of tuition (fall, spring, and summer) and is non-renewable. Students may reapply. Please note: The Texas legislature has passed a bill that adds a grade point average requirement for persons to receive continuation awards through the program. The bill also adds a limit to the total number of hours that a student may take and continue to receive aid through this program. This change goes into effect in fall 2014. The student should contact his/her institution for additional information.
From the pool of valid applications accepted, the THECB will select up to 10 students per eligible country, plus 35 students from a Latin American country designated by the United States Department of State. In the event any nation fails to have 10 students available and qualified for scholarships or if the designated country fails to have 35 such students, the Board may allocate such unused scholarships as determined appropriate, with priority being given to students from Mexico, except that the total of all scholarships shall not exceed 235 in a year.
The purpose of this program is to provide assistance for tuition to students from other nations of the Western Hemisphere (other than Cuba).
