Number of Awards & Eligibility: Varies, based on the number of qualified applicants.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a resident of Texas.
  2. This award is for U.S. students.
  3. Must attend a Texas public college or university.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must have been permanently injured in the line of duty while serving as a peace officer.
  6. Must be a high school graduate or older and pursuing an undergraduate level education.

Description: This award is available for Texas resident undergraduate students who are attending a public Texas college or university. Applicants must be permanently disabled as a result of an injury suffered during the performance of a duty as a peace officer of Texas or a political subdivision of Texas.

Additional Information: The Exemption for Peace Officers Disabled in the Line of Duty Program is a state program, created by the state of Texas, established to provide a benefit to resident undergraduate students who were injured in the line of duty while serving as peace officers. The applicant must enroll in classes for which the college receives tax support (i.e., a course that does not depend solely on student tuition and fees to cover its costs).

Award Amount: Exemption from the payment of all tuition and fees at eligible institutions. Awards may be renewable and are limited for up to 12 semesters or sessions.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,570.
