Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be the spouse or dependent of a New Jersey firefighter, emergency service employee, or law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty.
  3. Must be a resident of New Jersey.
  4. Must enroll on a half-time or more basis.
  5. Must attend an eligible postsecondary institution in New Jersey. A list of eligible institutions is available online at www.njgrants.org.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  7. Must be enrolled or plan to enroll in an undergraduate program.

Description: This scholarship open to spouses and dependents of New Jersey firefighters, emergency service employees, and law enforcement officers killed in the performance of duty. Eligible students must be New Jersey residents and attend an eligible New Jersey college on a half-time basis or more.

Application requirements for the New Jersey Survivor Tuition Benefits Program are:

Additional Information: Eligibility is limited to eight years from the date of the child's high school graduation and eight years from the date of death for the spouse. Applicants must: be registered with Selective Service (if required); maintain satisfactory academic progress; and not have received the maximum number of payments.

Award Amount: The award provides free tuition at the recipient's postsecondary institution. The award amount cannot exceed the highest tuition charged at a New Jersey public institution. Awards are renewable. Scholarships depend on available funding.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $6,174.

Program information is available from the New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (NJ HESAA) website. Application deadlines are Oct. 1 for the full academic year (fall and spring terms) and March 1 for the spring term only.
