Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must plan to attend a school in the University of Hawai'i system.
  3. Must demonstrate academic achievement with a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must plan to enroll as a full-time student (12 credits per semester).
  6. Must be from the island of Kaua'i.
  7. Must be a high school senior at time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This schoalarship is available for high school seniors who are from the island of Kaua'i in Hawaii. Students must have a grade point average of 2.7 or higher and plan to attend a college in the University of Hawaii system.

Additional Information: This award was established by Dorothy "Dolly" Ching when she retired in 1994. Dolly was the first female Executive Vice President at Bank of Hawaii. All applicants for this award must demonstrate financial need and good moral character. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August.

Award Amount: Approximately $3,000 annually, non-renewable. Students may reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Online application forms are now available on the Hawai'i Community Foundation website. The student should visit the Hawai'i Community Foundation's website for detailed instructions on how to complete the online application. In addition to the online application form, the student must submit the following supporting materials: the printed confirmation page that is generated after applying online; a typed, double-spaced personal statement of two to three pages answering the questions listed on the website; an official copy of his/her most recent transcript; and a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Two letters of recommendation must also be submitted for this scholarship. These letters should be written by a teacher, counselor, minister, and/or employer who can comment on the applicant's overall character, achievement, and promise. A student will not be able to submit his/her application until all required supporting documents are electronically attached to the application. Applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. HST.
