Number of Awards & Eligibility: Varies, all qualified applicants will be considered depending on the amount of funding available.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  3. Must enroll on at least a 3/4-time basis.
  4. Must attend a private, non-profit college or university in Texas.
  5. Must be a Texas resident OR, a non-resident National Merit Finalist.
  6. Must be accepted to or enrolled in a degree plan leading to a first associate's, baccalaureate, master's, or doctoral degree.
  7. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

Description: This award is for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who are Texas residents or are non-Texas residents but are recognized as a National Merit Finalists. Students must be enrolled at least 3/4 time at an eligible private, non-profit colleges or universities in Texas for, and must demonstrate financial need.

Additional Information: The Tuition Equalization Grant is a state program, administered through the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, established to provide grant aid to financially needy students to help them attend private, non-profit colleges or universities in Texas. In addition to meeting the program requirements, students must register for the Selective Service or sign a statement of exemption and not concurrently be receiving an athletic scholarship.

Award Amount: Up to $3,420 annually. Undergraduate students with exceptional need (those whose Expected Family Contributions are less than or equal to $1,000) may receive awards of up to $4,875 in a given year. Awards may not exceed the student's financial need or the amount of tuition the student is paying in excess of what he or she would pay at a public institution.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,420.

To apply, interested students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The FAFSA should be submitted for state scholarship/grant consideration as soon as possible after January 1st each year for award consideration for the upcoming award year. In addition to a complete application, each participating college or university may require students to submit additional forms or supplemental information before scholarship eligibility can be determined.
